From A-Level Student to University Undergraduate
Combining recent experience of achieving an A* in the subject with the analytical training of a degree that rewards both rigour and creativity, he brings a distinctive perspective to helping students turn political ideas into essays that score highly.
Dominic is particularly skilled at helping students grasp political ideologies, connect abstract ideas to real-world policy and build the essay-writing stamina that A-Level Politics demands.

He is currently studying Music at the University of Manchester and goes into his third year in September. He chose Music because it combined his interests in critical thinking and creativity, and because it allowed him to explore the intersections between Music and other fields including Politics. Although Politics is no longer his degree subject, he took an optional Politics module in his first year and achieved a high first-class mark in it, keeping his subject knowledge current at undergraduate level.
Dominic supports A-Level Politics students across the core content of the course, from ideologies to UK and US politics. His combination of Politics, History and a degree built on essay writing gives him a strong grasp of how examiners award marks for argument, evidence and evaluation.

Teaching & Mentoring Style
Dominic believes that the marks in Politics sit in the gap between knowing a political idea and showing what it does. His favourite area of the subject is examining different ideologies, including liberalism and conservatism, and how those ideas translate into policies that governments actually pursue. Students who can define an ideology accurately often lose marks because they never demonstrate its consequences.
His teaching focuses on essay practice above everything else. He works with students on planning quickly, sustaining a clear line of argument through every paragraph and reaching a judgement that the evidence genuinely supports rather than one bolted on at the end.
Dominic also encourages students to follow the news closely, so their answers draw on current examples rather than the same textbook cases that appear in every other script. He treats wider reading as exam preparation rather than an optional extra.
What Students Find Helpful
Students appreciate Dominic’s clarity when explaining ideologies and his practical, no-nonsense approach to essay writing. As someone who sat these papers recently, he understands the pressures of Year 12 and 13 and can talk realistically about how much writing the course requires and how to fit it around everything else.
His combination of recent exam success and continued academic study helps students feel more confident in their arguments and better prepared for the demands of the exam.

Outside of Academics
Outside of academics, Dominic plays competitive tennis, runs and trains at the gym, and plays strategy games. Balancing sport and a demanding degree has given him a realistic view of how students can protect their study time without giving up the things they enjoy.
